Inside Carolina reports that North Carolina has reached out to eleven players in the transfer portal to bolster its roster for the upcoming season. The focus has been on filling the gap left by Armando Bacot’s departure, with six of the contacted players being post players. Additionally, with RJ Davis’s decision pending and Harrison Ingram’s departure for the NBA Draft, the team is targeting forwards to address its needs.
Three transfers who had been contacted by UNC have already committed elsewhere, and Maxime Raynaud from Stanford decided to withdraw from the portal and remain with the Cardinal. The eleven transfers contacted by UNC this offseason are: [list of players].
According to Dushawn London of 247Sports, Brea has narrowed his options to UNC, Kansas, Duke, UConn, and Kentucky, marking him as the latest transfer in contact with UNC. He’s engaged in Zoom meetings with all five prominent programs since entering the transfer portal. Brea stands out as one of the top shooters in this transfer cycle, boasting averages of 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game during his redshirt junior season. Notably, he shot an impressive 51.2 percent from the field and an outstanding 49.8 percent from beyond the arc.
North Carolina initially contacted several small forwards as contingency options in case Harrison Ingram entered the NBA draft. Now, with Ingram’s decision confirmed, they are actively pursuing him. Thiero has also garnered interest from other notable schools such as Pittsburgh, Miami, Arizona, Oregon, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Indiana, and NC State. The 6-foot-8 forward posted averages of 7.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game last season, shooting at 49.2 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc.
