Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, will have surgery to repair a fractured metatarsal in his right foot, according to coach Erik ten Hag on Monday.
Martinez missed the end of last season due to an injury, which has already been ruled out for a “extended period” of time. After having surgery to fix his fractured metatarsal in April, he will undergo another procedure on his foot.
Ten Hag stated, “That’s really sad, disappointing news,” prior to Tuesday’s Champions League matchup between United and Galatasaray. “I feel terrible for him since he has to go through the same thing.
He will be missed by the team. We constantly have to cope with it as a team because, as you may know, we suffer from more injuries. He needs to be powerful. He’ll fight back, I have no doubt. He has personality.
Additionally absent from Ten Hag’s defense are Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Sergio Reguilon, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Ten Hag added that Antony will be eligible to play once again after returning from a leave of absence to handle domestic violence claims.
United’s initial Group A match ended in a 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich.
