DeShawn Williams, aged 31, has traversed various paths in his professional football journey. Initially entering the NFL scene as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015, he spent three seasons with them before transitioning through multiple teams’ practice squads in 2018, including the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and Indianapolis Colts. In 2019, he found himself back with the Broncos’ practice squad, followed by a stint in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders in 2020.
Returning to Denver later that same year, Williams secured a spot on the team’s active roster, showcasing his defensive prowess over multiple seasons (2020-2022). His peak performance came in his final season with the Broncos, where he recorded notable statistics, including 4.5 sacks in December alone, along with 37 tackles (21 solo), four tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, and three pass defenses.
Despite his eight-year tenure in professional football, Williams’ time spent on practice squads might have mitigated some wear-and-tear on his body. With stats accumulated over five NFL seasons and his tenure in the CFL, Williams has started 44 out of 66 games played as a defensive lineman in the NFL.
Additionally, it’s worth noting Williams’ connections within the Buffalo Bills’ defensive line room. He previously played alongside Von Miller in Denver (2020-2020), and upon signing with the Bills, he shared a throwback photo with Shaq Lawson from their high school days in Central, SC. While Lawson’s free-agent status is current, their bond suggests they would relish the opportunity to reunite on the field.
