Report: Green Bay Packers Are more interested in Re-signing Former Star Player on a three-year, $18 million contract…

Packers Showing Significant Interest in 1st-Round Cornerback: Report.

The Green Bay Packers’ interest in Kool-Aid McKinstry, a potential first-round cornerback out of Alabama, has been highlighted by recent reports. General manager Brian Gutekunst attended Alabama’s pro day, where the Packers showed particular interest in McKinstry, according to local media sources. Although there were other notable prospects at the pro day, the fact that one of the Packers’ scouts engaged in a lengthy conversation with McKinstry suggests significant interest in him.

Despite the Packers seemingly having depth at cornerback, with players like Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Carrington Valentine, and Keisean Nixon, there might be a desire to find a long-term upgrade, particularly in the slot position. McKinstry, however, has limited experience in the slot, primarily playing on the outside, which may raise questions about his fit within the Packers’ current roster structure.

If the Packers decide not to pursue McKinstry, they have several other options with their 25th overall pick. Defensive back Cooper DeJean from Iowa, known for his versatility and aggressiveness, could be a potential choice. Additionally, addressing the offensive line, given the lack of depth behind starters, is another possibility. Prospects like Washington’s Troy Fautanu or Duke’s Graham Barton could be considerations in that scenario.

Ultimately, Gutekunst is known for making unexpected first-round picks, so the Packers’ actual choice won’t be known until the 2024 NFL draft takes place at the end of April.
