Serie A: Juventus defeats Lecce 1-0: Milik found
Adrien Rabiot’s knockdown resulted in a foul on Arkadiusz Milik, allowing Juventus to defeat Lecce and go ahead of them into third place.
This unexpected matchup was for third place, which the Salentini currently held along with Inter as the only other unbeaten team left in Serie A. That’s because Juve suffered a 4-2 loss to Sassuolo over the weekend thanks to two errors from Wojciech Szczesny and an own goal from Federico Gatti. Alex Sandro and Mattia De Sciglio were injured, Paul Pogba was suspended for failing a drug test, and Moise Kean was not included. For the visitors, Lameck Banda was receiving medical attention.
Wladimiro Falcone faced challenges from Federico Chiesa and Arek Milik, and then the Italian sprung the offside trap on Danilo’s through ball for a shot that skimmed the far post and flew across the goal’s face.
When a corner was not effectively cleared, Weston McKennie put up the cross for Adrien Rabiot’s header to the back post, where Milik came diving in from a yard away. Marin Pongracic glanced the free kick over, but Juventus finally got through.
Chiesa spun and twisted as Rabiot fired a cross-shot across the goal, and Chiesa saw his pull-back from the by-line be vitally intercepted.
Juve obtained the desired outcome and ended Lecce’s unbeaten run despite the lackluster effort and jeers they received when they left the field at halftime.
When Mohamed Kaba raced down the by-line to wrestle with Chiesa and lost his balance, Lecce were surprised and the match was stopped. The referee quite strongly viewed it as a dive even though there was no penalty and gave him his second yellow card.
Juve defeats Lecce 1-0.
57 Milik (J)
