In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers are equipped with five picks within the initial three rounds. In a recent mock draft by Connor Livesay for The 33rd Team, significant gaps in the team’s roster were addressed.
Starting off the draft was the selection of Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma in the first round. Guyton, primarily a right tackle at Oklahoma, showcased versatility by playing left tackle during the Senior Bowl. With impressive athleticism, he’s seen as a potential long-term successor to David Bakhtiari.
Moving into Day 2, the Packers concentrated on bolstering their defensive lineup. Picks included Tyler Nubin from Minnesota and Ruke Orhorhoro from Clemson in the second round, followed by Kris Abrams-Draine from Missouri in the third round.
Nubin, known for his 12 interceptions over three seasons, attributes his skill development to the mentorship of Buccaneers’ star Antoine Winfield during his freshman year.
Abrams-Draine’s standout performance in the previous season included allowing just 24 completions out of 51 attempts, along with a career-high of four interceptions. Orhorhoro, recognized for his consistency in tackles for loss, emphasized his prowess during the Scouting Combine.
Addressing concerns at cornerback, the Packers opted for Wiggins from Clemson. Standing at 6-foot-2, Wiggins exhibited strong defensive skills, limiting opponents to 18 completions out of 41 attempts in 2023, coupled with two interceptions.
The draft continued to fill defensive gaps with the selection of Edgerrin Cooper from Texas A&M in the second round. Cooper’s speed and agility are seen as assets that could improve the Packers’ coverage in the second level.
Overall, the Packers’ draft strategy focused on fortifying their defense while also considering future needs and potential replacements for key positions.
