Golden State Warriors Legend Who Passed Away.

Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević, a mentor to two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić, and a former star player in his native Serbia, died Wednesday after suffering a heart attack, the team announced.

Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević passed away on Wednesday following a heart attack, the team confirmed. He was 46 years old.

“We are deeply saddened by Dejan Milojević’s sudden departure,” the team expressed in a statement. “His passing is a shocking and tragic loss for everyone associated with the Warriors, and it’s an incredibly challenging time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the privilege to work alongside him.”

Milojević was hospitalized on Tuesday evening in Salt Lake City after experiencing a medical emergency during a private team dinner, as announced by the team on Wednesday.

The severity of the situation prompted the NBA to postpone the Wednesday game between the Warriors and the Utah Jazz. A rescheduled date was not immediately announced.

Milojević had been with the Warriors for his third season and played a part in the team’s victory in the 2022 NBA championship. Prior to joining the Warriors, he coached in Serbia and Montenegro, including serving as an assistant coach for the Serbian national team.

During his coaching career in Europe, Milojević worked with notable players such as Nikola Jokić, Ivica Zubac, Goga Bitadze, and Boban Marjanović. Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Warriors, learned about Milojević through Kent Lacob and decided to bring him on board despite initial hesitations from Milojević.

Milojević’s accolades included winning three consecutive Most Valuable Player awards in the Adriatic League during his playing days. He was known for his love of the game and emphasized the importance of enjoying basketball in interviews.

Before his tenure with the Warriors, Milojević gained NBA experience through coaching roles in Summer League teams such as Atlanta, San Antonio, and Houston.

Tributes poured in swiftly after Milojević’s passing was announced, including condolences from the Spanish club Valencia, where he had spent two seasons. Valencia’s statement extended support to Milojević’s family during this difficult time.
