The Arsenal goalkeeper has been demoted from Mikel Arteta’s lineup, but he has continued to support the Spaniard off the field.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, kept David Raya in goal against Tottenham Hotspur for a third straight game. Since the Gunners now have two excellent options between the posts, Aaron Ramsdale’s future is uncertain.
Ramsdale has been the obvious top pick in north London ever since he joined the team from Sheffield United in 2021. The England international beat out Matt Turner as Arteta’s first choice over Matt Turner last season, surpassing Bernd Leno in the 2021/22 campaign.
However, because so few teams have two starting goalkeepers, Raya’s original loan move from Brentford came as a surprise to those in the game. Ramsdale participated in the 3-1 victory over Manchester United before to the international break, but the subsequent three games have seen him sit on the bench as a substitute.
Following his debut against Everton the previous week, Raya made another appearance against PSV Eindhoven. Ramsdale was once again benched for the North London Derby match against Spurs as Arteta once again chose Raya.
And Raya didn’t let us down with an incredible close-range save to stop Son Heung-min. Ange Postecoglou’s team should have tied the score after Arsenal went up 1-0 when Son’s shot appeared to be going in before the Spanish goalkeeper stopped him.
Raya was backed by his teammate goalie after earning a standing ovation from the Emirates Stadium supporters. Ramsdale was captured on camera cheering the 28-year-old’s heroics from the bench by Sky Sports.
