Packers Reach Decision on Quarterback Jordan Love’s Contract.
Jordan Love is poised to become the cornerstone quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, and the team is preparing to compensate him accordingly.
While the exact figures have yet to be finalized, sources including Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network revealed on Super Bowl Sunday that the Packers intend to secure Love with a long-term contract around June 2024, reflecting the “fair-market” value for a starting NFL quarterback.
Before the 2023 season, the Packers arranged a short-term extension for Love—a one-year, $22.5 million deal through 2024, offering him a salary boost in 2023 and postponing the decision on Love’s fifth-year option. Since this agreement was made in May, it’s likely to undergo renegotiation around the same time this coming May.
Anticipating negotiations for a new contract, the Packers are open to discussing a fair-market deal that acknowledges Love’s role as a genuine starter. Typically, quarterback deals are settled in June or before training camp begins, aligning with Love’s age of 25 and his readiness for a significant career milestone.
According to Spotrac, Love’s market value is estimated at $44.8 million annually ($179.4 million total) over a prospective four-year deal.
Recognizing the weight of his position as the successor to Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, Love acknowledges the rich history of quarterbacking in Green Bay. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of such esteemed quarterbacks during an interview on “The Jim Rome Show” in Las Vegas.
Love’s recent performance solidifies his position as one of the league’s top quarterbacks in his debut season as a starter. Despite some challenges, his leadership guided the Packers to a 9-8 record and secured a playoff spot. Notably, Love showcased his abilities during crucial moments, notably during the Super Wildcard Weekend clash against the Dallas Cowboys.
Although he faced setbacks in the Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Love’s overall performance, including 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions during the season, reaffirms his status as the future leader of the Packers’ offense.
