Rodgers Provides Detailed Update on Injured Defenders’ Return.
Brendan Rodgers has outlin.ed clear timelines for the return of Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers from their respective injuries.
Taylor, the full-back, has been absent for four matches following a calf injury sustained during Celtic’s Scottish Cup victory over Buckie Thistle. Similarly, Carter-Vickers’ return from injury was interrupted during the 1-0 win over Ross County.
Celtic’s defensive lineup has been plagued by injuries this season, but in today’s match against St Mirren, a revamped back four secured a clean sheet.
Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers were key members of Ange Postecoglou’s treble-winning squad, and both are nearing a return to action.
Speaking on Taylor’s absence, Rodgers emphasized his significant contribution to the team, highlighting his intelligence, technique, and physicality. Taylor is back in training and expected to be available for selection next weekend.
Regarding Carter-Vickers, Rodgers acknowledged the challenges he has faced this season, including undergoing surgery and a lengthy recovery process. Despite these setbacks, Carter-Vickers is back on the pitch and nearing full fitness. Rodgers expressed hope that he would be ready in the coming weeks.
While Alexandro Bernabei’s performances against Hibs and St Mirren showed promise, Rodgers indicated that Taylor would reclaim his spot in the Celtic lineup for the upcoming match against Kilmarnock.
Though Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales have provided depth in central defense, a fully fit Carter-Vickers would be a valuable addition to the squad after a season marred by injuries.
