Stephen Curry’s adaptation to rule modifications has been notable.
Despite the various adjustments to the rules, we’ve witnessed their impact on different players and their shooting percentages. At 33 years old, Stephen Curry remains a player who consistently performs at an MVP-caliber level.
Slater: During the first preseason game in Portland, I had a conversation with Curry at shoot around that morning, where I inquired about his thoughts on the new rule changes. His response was, “I’m uncertain. I need to experience it firsthand.” Later that evening, there was a widely circulated clip of him attempting a pump fake from the wing, jumping into a defender, but the referee didn’t make the call.
However, he has adapted to the changes. There have been instances where he’s executed pump fakes, almost leaning into defenders, but instead, he’s chosen to pass the ball. He seems to have adjusted his game perhaps faster than James Harden and Trae Young.
