NFL REPORT Unexpected $730,000 Development in Legal Battle Involving Brett Favre, Icon of the Green Bay Packers”

It feels as though whenever Brett Favre’s name grabs the headlines these days, it is because of unsavory reasons. This time, it’s because Mississippi wants the former Green Bay Packers star quarterback to return over $700,000 of the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) money that Favre allegedly received.

Mississippi’s state auditor filed court papers Monday renewing his call for Brett Favre to repay the state for welfare money that the auditor says was improperly spent on projects backed by the retired NFL quarterback.

Auditor Shad White’s demand of nearly $730,000 from Favre is the latest twist in a long-running legal battle over money that was supposed to help some of the poorest people in one of the poorest states in the nation.

White said that the amount they are asking to get from Favre was the interest from the $1.1 million that the Green Bay Packers icon received. Favre had already paid back the $1.1 million through two separate payments in 2020 and 2021.

Favre has been alleged to have accepted the $1.1 million amount in exchange for speaking fees in events that he did not show up for. There is also another allegation that Favre got $5 million of TANF money in order to fund a volleyball facility at South Miss where his daughter played.
