Alabama corner Trey Amos sets visit to Ole Miss.

Sources tell Inside the Rebels that Alabama transfer portal cornerback Trey Amos will visit Ole Miss this weekend. Amos entered the portal on Jan. 15.

Amos was considered to be one of the Crimson Tide’s top cornerbacks during the 2023 season.

Amos will be a fifth-year senior. He spent his first three seasons at Louisiana before transferring to Alabama last May. He began the season rotating with Terrion Arnold at one cornerback spot before Arnold settled into that role and positioned himself as a likely 2024 first-round pick alongside McKinstry. Amos, however, still saw considerable playing time as Alabama’s third cornerback — including in some sub packages when Arnold moved to the slot.

NFL Draft 2024: Ohio State, Alabama headline winners, losers from early-entry deadline

Some college football programs were hit harder than others at the deadline.

At the end of each college football season, a strong contingent of the nation’s top underclassmen elect to forgo the remainder of their eligibility and get an early start on their professional careers. While the incentive to remain on campus for another year or two becomes more enticing with each passing year as NIL develops into more of a commonplace inducement, hordes of star players still declare for the NFL Draft rather than stick around the college ranks.

The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the 2023 draft was Monday, Jan. 15, and with that key date now in the past, the full list of early departures is complete. Among the biggest names entering the draft pool and declining the option to return to college are USC’s Caleb Williams, Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., Alabama’s Dallas Turner and numerous others.

Some of the best teams in college football were hit harder by the draft declaration deadline than others. Unsurprisingly, perennial CFP contenders faced the most impactful departures, but some teams held onto more talent than expected.

Here are the biggest winners and losers from the NFL Draft early-entry deadline:

NEUTRAL: TEXAS LONGHORNS

Texas is a unique case and receives special recognition here as neither a winner nor a loser from the draft deadline. Its lengthy list of underclassmen leaving early includes star receivers Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy, running back Jonathon Brooks, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders and defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, to name a few. Not many teams would be able to overcome the losses of essentially all of their best players. But the return of star quarterback Quinn Ewers may prove to be more impactful than the combined departures, as he figures to enter the season in the Heisman Trophy conversation. The Longhorns are a national title contender due in no small part to Ewers’ presence.
