Alabama linebacker becomes fifth Tide player to transfer to Florida State
Shawn Murphy entered the NCAA transfer portal Saturday.
Alabama linebacker Shawn Murphy committed Monday evening to transfer to Florida State, his agents A&P Agency told 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Murphy had entered the NCAA transfer portal Saturday, hours after new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer’s introductory news conference at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Murphy visited Tallahassee Sunday through Monday.
He becomes the fifth Alabama player to transfer to Florida State this offseason, joining running back Roydell Williams, cornerback Earl Little Jr., offensive lineman Terrence Ferguson and wide receiver Malik Benson.
With Murphy joining another inside linebacker Kendrick Blackshire in the portal, and with Trezmen Marshall declaring for the NFL draft, Alabama has only four returning scholarship inside linebackers. Lawson and Campbell are joined on the depth chart by Jeremiah Alexander and Justin Jefferson, with two signed incoming freshmen in Justin Okoronkwo and Cayden Jones.
Murphy played in five games as a freshman and 13 games this past season, mostly on special teams. He was a four-star prospect in 2022 from Virginia ranked No. 142 nationally by 247 Sports.
Murphy is among five Alabama players who have entered the transfer portal since Nick Saban’s retirement, and is one of 22 scholarship players to enter since the portal initially opened in December:
