Is the possibility of the Warriors considering a trade involving this forward being explored?
While there is “zero indication” that the Warriors would entertain the idea of trading established franchise pillars like Klay Thompson or Draymond Green at the upcoming deadline, there is a growing belief among rival front offices, as highlighted in Marc Stein’s recent Substack story, that the team might be open to the possibility of dealing Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors are reportedly hesitant to part with young forward Jonathan Kuminga, seen as a potential star for both current and future success, despite documented struggles when sharing the court with Wiggins this season.
Stein notes that the trade market’s perception of Wiggins is uncertain at this point. Despite his significant contribution to Golden State’s 2022 title and his once-regarded team-friendly four-year, $109 million contract, Wiggins is experiencing the worst season of his NBA career in 2023/24, with career-low averages of 11.9 points per game and a 29.7% three-point shooting mark. Stein suggests that for Lakers coach Darvin Ham’s job to be genuinely at risk, the team’s performance would likely need to worsen significantly. However, Ham has expressed alignment with team owner Jeanie Buss and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, receiving strong support from organizational leaders.
Despite the Lakers’ struggles this season, there is no indication that star forward LeBron James has any interest in forcing a trade out of Los Angeles, according to Stein. The Lakers reportedly aim to weather the current challenges and turn things around during a home-heavy stretch of the schedule.
Regarding the Kings’ recent trade talks for Raptors forward Pascal Siakam, Shams Charania of The Athletic mentioned on FanDuel’s Run It Back that Sacramento had hoped for a quick deal and had a specific package centered around Harrison Barnes. However, since Toronto was unwilling to accept the offer, the discussions have been put on hold, with potential resumption if the Raptors decide to reengage.
