Another ex Braves reliever finds a new home.
One of the more unheralded players on the 2023 Atlanta Braves has found himself a new home. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports Michael Tonkin has signed a major league deal with the New York Mets.
One of the more shocking stats from last year’s team is Michael Tonkin ended the year with the fourth most innings pitched on the team. On the entire team. Michael Tonkin pitched the fourth most innings on a 104-win team. Baseball never ceases to amaze.
Tonkin finished last year with a 4.28 ERA and a 4.43 FIP after joining the team on a minor league deal last winter and ended up playing a fairly large role as the main bulk guy out of the bullpen.
Tonkin was swept up in significant 40-man turnover earlier this winter and was non-tendered by the Braves in the process, sending him to the open market where the Mets scooped him up. Full terms of the deal are not yet known.
