The Championship team reportedly made a sizable offer for the former MK Dons midfielder.
According to sources, MK Dons were denied another sell-on payday when a last-minute offer from Leeds United for Celtic Matt O’Riley on the day of the transfer deadline fell short.
The Danish midfielder has made an impression in his 18 months with the green and white, contributing to Celtic’s treble-winning campaign last year. His performance has drawn interest from a number of clubs.
However, Championship team Leeds reportedly made a proposal for the Bhoys’ man worth £10 million, which fell short of the asking price, according to Scottish journalist Anthony Joseph.
In the summer of 2020, O’Riley left Fulham and signed for MK Dons. After training with the team but not officially joining until January 2021, O’Riley made more than 50 appearances and scored 10 goals for the club before leaving for Celtic for a cost that is thought to be in the neighborhood of £1.5 million.
But it’s thought that the agreement contains a sell-on clause, meaning that if O’Riley ever leaves, the Dons will receive compensation.
Last week, the sale of Sam Nombe from Exeter City to Rotherham United, which went for a club record amount for the Tykes, brought in a windfall for the Dons.
