The New York Mets have officially announced their Opening Day lineup for the 2025 MLB season, set to face the Houston Astros on March 27 at Daikin Park in Houston. The lineup features several key players, including shortstop Francisco Lindor, right fielder Juan Soto, and first baseman Pete Alonso. Clay Holmes has been designated as the starting pitcher for this inaugural game.
The batting order is as follows: Francisco Lindor leading off as shortstop, followed by Juan Soto in right field, Pete Alonso at first base, Mark Vientos as the designated hitter, Brandon Nimmo in center field, Luisangel Acuña at second base, Nick Madrigal at third base, Hayden Senger as catcher, and Nick Gordon in left field. This arrangement underscores the Mets’ strategy to leverage both seasoned players and emerging talents.
Notably, Luisangel Acuña has secured a spot in the lineup, filling in at second base due to the absence of Jeff McNeil, who is sidelined with an injury. Similarly, catcher Hayden Senger steps in for Francisco Álvarez, who is also on the injured list.
The Mets’ starting rotation has been impacted by injuries, with Paul Blackburn beginning the season on the 15-day injured list due to right knee inflammation. In his stead, Clay Holmes will take the mound for the Opening Day start.
The game is scheduled to commence at 4:10 PM Eastern Time and will be broadcast on SNY. Fans can also listen to the live radio coverage on Audacy Mets Radio WHSQ 880AM, the Audacy App, and 92.3 HD2.
As the Mets embark on the 2025 season, the Opening Day lineup reflects a blend of established stars and promising newcomers, aiming to make a strong start against the Astros in Houston.
