RED SOX NEWS:Red Sox $140 Million Contract Named Worst in Baseball……….

Trevor Story’s six-year, $140 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, signed before the 2022 season, has recently been labeled one of the worst in Major League Baseball. Initially, Story was expected to bolster the Red Sox’s infield alongside Xander Bogaerts, bringing his impressive track record from the Colorado Rockies, where he consistently hit 24 or more home runs each season (excluding the shortened 2020 season) and earned two All-Star selections.

However, since joining Boston, Story’s tenure has been plagued by injuries, limiting his contributions. Over the past three seasons, he has participated in only 163 games, posting a .232 batting average and a .296 on-base percentage, significantly lower than his performance in Colorado. Injuries, including hand and heel contusions, elbow surgery, and shoulder surgery, have severely impacted his playing time and effectiveness.

With three years remaining on his contract, the Red Sox owe Story $72.5 million between 2025 and 2027. Given his recent injury history and declining performance, there is skepticism about his ability to return to his previous All-Star form. While Story has a player opt-out clause after the 2025 season, it appears unlikely he will exercise it, considering his diminished market value. This situation poses a significant financial burden for the Red Sox as they strive to remain competitive in the coming seasons.
