Garrett Crochet, the 25-year-old All-Star left-hander recently acquired by the Boston Red Sox from the Chicago White Sox, has addressed the topic of a potential contract extension with his new team. Currently under team control through the 2026 season, Crochet acknowledged that preliminary discussions have taken place between his agent and the Red Sox front office. He expressed a positive outlook, stating that remaining in Boston long-term holds significant appeal for him. However, Crochet emphasized that his primary focus at this time is on preparing for the upcoming season, and he intends to approach extension talks when a concrete proposal is presented.
The Red Sox acquired Crochet in December 2024, trading four prospects, including catcher Kyle Teel and outfielder Braden Montgomery, to the White Sox. In his first full season as a starter in 2024, Crochet posted a 3.58 ERA with 209 strikeouts over 146 innings, showcasing his potential as a frontline starter. Given his performance and the team’s investment, securing Crochet beyond his current contract could be a strategic move for Boston.
While both parties have expressed mutual interest in a long-term partnership, the timing and terms of a potential extension remain undetermined. Crochet’s focus on his immediate preparation suggests that substantive negotiations may occur closer to or during the season, as he and the Red Sox assess their future together.
