Florida State University has recently bolstered its football program by adding veteran coach Rick Stockstill to its off-field staff. Stockstill, who served as the head coach at Middle Tennessee State University for 18 seasons, brings a wealth of experience to the Seminoles. During his tenure at Middle Tennessee, he amassed 113 wins and led the team to 10 bowl appearances, securing one conference title and one division title. Before his head coaching role, Stockstill held offensive assistant positions at various institutions, including Bethune-Cookman, UCF, Clemson, East Carolina, and South Carolina. Notably, he played quarterback for Florida State from 1977 to 1981, marking a return to his alma mater.
In his new capacity at Florida State, Stockstill is expected to focus on program development and team cohesion, leveraging his extensive coaching background to support the team’s objectives. This strategic move aligns with head coach Mike Norvell’s commitment to enhancing the program’s infrastructure and performance. The addition of Stockstill follows other significant coaching changes, including the hiring of Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator and Tony White as defensive coordinator, as the Seminoles aim to revitalize their coaching staff after a challenging 2-10 season.
