Four-star cornerback Samari Matthews, a top-100 prospect from Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, has scheduled an official visit to Florida State University. Matthews, standing at 6-foot-0 and weighing 180 pounds, is ranked as the No. 57 overall prospect and the No. 5 cornerback in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports.

Matthews has held an offer from Florida State for over a year and has visited Tallahassee multiple times. His most recent trip was his first since the Seminoles revamped their coaching staff, including the hiring of new defensive coordinator Tony White and safeties coach Evan Cooper.

During his junior season, Matthews recorded 19 tackles, one tackle for loss, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions, contributing to Hough High School’s 12-2 record and appearance in the state quarterfinals. He forced a turnover in four of his ten appearances.

Florida State is competing with programs such as Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina for Matthews’ commitment. Securing an official visit is a significant step for the Seminoles as they aim to bolster their 2026 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 8 nationally with six verbal commitments.
