His ability to capitalize on Fenway’s dimensions makes him an attractive target for the Red Sox.
Discussions have centered on Bregman’s potential role with the team, given Rafael Devers’ current position at third base. Manager Alex Cora, who previously worked with Bregman in Houston, believes Bregman’s skills could translate well to second base, a position the Red Sox have struggled to fill consistently since Dustin Pedroia’s departure. This positional flexibility could provide the Red Sox with a strategic advantage.
However, recent developments indicate that the Houston Astros are making significant efforts to retain Bregman. They have cleared payroll space by trading Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs, which may facilitate a new contract for Bregman. This move could complicate the Red Sox’s pursuit, as Bregman may opt to remain with his longtime team.
