Transfer report:Mets Ownership Bracing for Departure of Four Time All-Star……..

The New York Mets are preparing for the potential departure of four-time All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso as he enters free agency this offseason. Alonso, who has been a cornerstone of the Mets’ lineup since his debut, is expected to explore offers from other teams. Mets’ president of baseball operations, David Stearns, acknowledged the situation, stating, “I hope we have him back. I think we both understand this is a process, and everyone’s got their own interest. And Pete deserves to go out into the free-agent market and see what’s out there, and then ultimately make the best choice for him and his family.”

Alonso’s free agency comes at a time when the Mets have made significant financial commitments elsewhere, notably the record-setting 15-year, $765 million contract with superstar Juan Soto. This substantial investment may impact the team’s ability to offer Alonso a competitive deal. Additionally, the Mets have parted ways with six-time All-Star J.D. Martinez, further indicating a shift in the team’s roster strategy.

Despite the uncertainty, the Mets’ leadership remains hopeful about retaining Alonso. Owner Steve Cohen expressed his desire to keep Alonso in Queens, stating, “Listen, we want to keep him. He’s an important part of our team today and hopefully in the future.” As Alonso evaluates his market options, the Mets will need to balance their recent financial commitments with their goal of maintaining a competitive roster.
