The RFL is pleased to announce the first ever Women’s Masters Rugby League stand-alone Festival calendar for 2025
2024 was a historic year for the social variant with three dedicated Women’s Festivals taking place and seven teams attending the National Festival in Blackpool. Next season will feature five stand-alone events with three also linked to the traditional Men’s Festivals (Season Launch, Yorkshire & National.
Masters Women’s Officer, Mina Patel, said: “We have new teams looking to come on board each year which aligns to our long-term aim of at least 30 Women’s Masters teams by 2030, including having our own stand-alone Women’s National Festival. Players can turn up individually or as a small group to join with other teams, that’s the beauty of Masters, everyone is guaranteed game time.
“The ability to announce a Women’s only Masters Rugby League calendar demonstrates the growth in the Women’s game over the last two years and the fantastic work Mina continues to deliver along with the Masters Management Group. It also highlights the inclusivity of Rugby League, and I am very much looking forward to seeing this area of Masters continue to develop for years to come.
Masters Rugby League is strictly a social version of the sport for players aged 35+ for Men’s Masters and 30+ for Women’s Masters. The aim is for enjoyment, fitness benefits and social aspects whilst players engage in a version of Rugby League modified for ‘the older player.’
