Ben Doak might be feeling “regret” about leaving Celtic for Liverpool, according to Stephen McGinn.

Due to the playing time Jurgen Klopp is providing the 17-year-old for Liverpool and his first goal for Scotland’s U21 team, he has recently become the talk of the town.

There has been significant discussion regarding whether Ben Doak should receive his senior call now that Steve Clarke’s team is very certain to qualify for Euro 2024.

Either way, Stephen McGinn thinks Ben Doak might have been better off had he stayed at Celtic because he would have earned more minutes and been a ‘big part’ of a team that’s trying to make a name for itself in the Champions League, as he told Go Radio.

The all-action winger left in 2022 and he has since made eight appearances for Liverpool, you would imagine, if he was still at Parkhead, then he would have more minutes under his belt.

It also needs to be remembered that the Bhoys went fishing out for quality out wide this summer, with the ever-improving Luis Palma joining and Jota securing his big-money transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Ben Doak’s “regret” for Celtic?
Ben Doak is one of the young guys John (McGinn) would be referring to there, said Stephen McGinn in response to his brother’s remarks.

All of the Scottish players are closely following his development and hoping that Liverpool would give him more playing time because he has some X-Factor moving into the new year.

“I know he is at Liverpool and doing well under a wonderful management. However, looking at the winger position at Celtic right now, I wonder if there isn’t a tiny amount of regret. He might have played a significant role in their team’s Champions League campaign.
