Brennan Johnson, a graduate of the Nottingham Forest academy, has been told by Wales boss Rob Page not to risk his health by reporting for duty while hurt.

Page had criticized Forest after Johnson skipped Wales’ away Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia in March, but that hasn’t changed. Page claimed at the time that he ought to have been “stronger” to make sure Johnson showed up to Wales’ training camp so they could evaluate the 22-year-old forward medically.

Johnson, who transferred from Forest to Tottenham for £47.5 million on the final day of the transfer window this summer, will be absent from Wales’ crucial Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia on October 15. On his debut appearance for Tottenham against Arsenal in the north London derby, he suffered a hamstring injury.

Johnson won’t be traveling with Tottenham this weekend when they travel to Luton in the Premier League, according to manager Ange Postecoglou on Friday. But following the international break, he will be ready to go back.
The communication between us and Tottenham has been excellent, according to Page. It’s all about respect for one another. Working together is important since both managers want a quality player who fits in.

“I’m not going to urge that he must come away, play him, and endanger his safety and well-being. Not me, please. They are aware of the significance of our games, though.

Page continued, “We’ve had great conversations with them, but ultimately his injury will dictate whether he can meet up or not.” in reference to communication with Tottenham regarding Johnson’s health issue.
