
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed the team’s determination ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on March 21, 2025. Despite recent injury concerns that sidelined him from Al-Kholood FC’s last two matches, Troost-Ekong remains optimistic about his participation and leadership role in the upcoming fixture.
The Super Eagles, under the new guidance of head coach Eric Chelle, are keen to revitalize their World Cup qualifying campaign. Chelle’s recent 23-man squad announcement reflects a blend of seasoned professionals and emerging talents. Notably, the list includes home-based players like goalkeeper Kayode Bankole from Remo Stars and midfielder Papa Daniel from Niger Tornadoes, highlighting Chelle’s commitment to integrating domestic league performers.Troost-Ekong acknowledges the challenges posed by the Rwandan team, especially when playing on their home turf. Historically, the Super Eagles have found it difficult to secure victories in Rwanda, often resulting in draws. Rwanda’s Amavubi, currently leading Group C with seven points from four matches, have demonstrated commendable form in the qualifiers.
