BREAKING NEWS;Red Sox Pitcher Provides Good Injury News

The Boston Red Sox received some good news regarding one of their injured starting pitchers, Brayan Bello. The 25-year-old from the Dominican Republic will start the season on the 15-day injured list but expects to be back sooner than later.By next week I should be up to four or five innings,” Bello said, through a translator, to Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. “There’s a plan in place. So hopefully, by the first or second week of April I’ll be back in.”This is great news for the Red Sox who are in dire need of Bello’s arm. The rotation is currently without Lucas Giolito and Kutter Crawford and Bello’s imminent return will bolster the unit.

Bello had a solid first full season as a starter in 2023 with a 12-11 record, 4.24 ERA, and 1.338 WHIP over 157 innings. He seemed poised for a breakout in 2024 but regressed to a 4.49 ERA and struggled with consistency

Most of this can be attributed to a slow start that saw his ERA soar above 5.00 through July. However, Bello finished strong and put together a sneakily excellent August and September.

Over his final nine starts, Bello threw 50 and 2/3 innings with a 3.02 ERA and a respectable 44 strikeouts. He primarily throws a sinker, slider, and changeup combination but found success utilizing his four-seamer down the stretch.

He does not need to eliminate any of his other pitches but expect a heavier reliance on the four-seamer this summer.

Now entering his third campaign with Boston, Bello looks to regain that 2023 form and provide meaningful innings from the middle or bottom of the rotation.

With newcomers like Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler handling the top matchups, Bello should have less pressure to perform and could very well crack a sub-4.00 ERA..
