Alexander Isak gives Newcastle contract update and responds to Liverpool and Arsenal interest

Alexander Isak says there are no concrete discussions over a new contract with Newcastle United but insists there have been no talks over a move away from St James’ Park.

 

The Sweden international has enhanced his reputation as one of the finest strikers around with 23 goals this season – the latest clinching the Carabao Cup on a historic day for Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday against Liverpool.

 

Isak is a long-term target for Arsenal with Mikel Arteta desperate to enlist the services of a potent option up top.

 

Liverpool are also thought to be considering a summer move for the player who has bagged 58 goals in 100 appearances since arriving from Real Sociedad inAsked about contract talks with the club, Isak told fotbollskanalen: ‘There is a lot of writing outside but within the club no one is talking about anything like that.‘I don’t know much, to be honest. From within the club and from our side there are absolutely no discussions. It’s just full focus on playing for me.’

 

Aware of growing interest in his services, Isak reiterated his happiness in the northeast, eager for the club to secure Champions League qualification this season with the Magpies currently sat sixth, two points behind Chelsea in fourth.

 

‘There’s not much to say, really’, Isak continued.

 

‘I’ve commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.

 

‘It’s been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feI’m not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle. Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games.That’s where my focus lies.

 

‘There is no reason for me to think about anything else (other than Newcastle). I feel incredibly comfortable at Newcastle. The only focus I have is on playing.’
