The New York Yankees are navigating a series of roster adjustments as they prepare for the 2025 MLB season. Notably, Carlos Rodón has been designated as the Opening Day starter, Giancarlo Stanton is contending with calf issues, and the team is placing renewed confidence in pitcher Will Warren despite his challenges in the previous season.

In light of Gerrit Cole’s season-ending Tommy John surgery, manager Aaron Boone has appointed Carlos Rodón as the Opening Day starter for the Yankees’ matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 27 at Yankee Stadium. Rodón, who led the team’s pitching staff last season with a 3.96 ERA and amassed 195 strikeouts over 32 starts, expressed his enthusiasm for the role. He emphasized his commitment to approaching the game with the same intensity as any other, with the primary objective of securing a win. This assignment marks Rodón’s second career Opening Day start, the first being in 2019 with the Chicago White Sox.

Despite a challenging 2024 season, where Will Warren faced difficulties in his performances, the Yankees have retained the 25-year-old right-hander, anticipating a resurgence in 2025. Warren has demonstrated notable improvement during spring training, recording a 1.54 ERA and securing 12 strikeouts over 11.2 innings. His recent start against the Tampa Bay Rays further solidified his potential to contribute effectively to the Yankees’ rotation. The coaching staff is optimistic that Warren’s development will translate into valuable innings during the regular season, providing depth to the pitching roster.

As Opening Day approaches, the Yankees are focused on adapting to these developments. The elevation of Rodón to the role of Opening Day starter underscores the team’s confidence in his abilities to lead the pitching staff. Simultaneously, Stanton’s health status remains a critical factor, with the organization closely monitoring his recovery to ensure a timely and effective return. The commitment to Will Warren reflects the Yankees’ belief in his potential to rebound and make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

These strategic decisions highlight the Yankees’ proactive approach to managing roster dynamics, aiming to maintain competitiveness in the 2025 season. By addressing pitching assignments, player health, and developmental prospects, the team is positioning itself to navigate the challenges ahead and strive for success in the highly competitive MLB landscape
