New York Mets pitching prospect Matt Allan is making significant strides in his rehabilitation after missing the past several years due to multiple elbow surgeries. Drafted in 2019, Allan was initially sidelined by Tommy John surgery in May 2021, followed by a nerve transposition procedure less than a year later, and a UCL revision surgery in February 2023. Now approaching his 23rd birthday, Allan has not pitched in a Minor League game since his professional debut.
Despite these setbacks, Allan has remained committed to his recovery. He has recently begun playing catch and is aiming to return to the mound by May. Mets senior vice president of player development, Andy Green, noted Allan’s positive attitude and dedication, emphasizing his focus on the present rather than the long road ahead.
While the average recovery time from a UCL revision surgery is approximately 18-20 months, Allan’s youth and determination provide hope for a successful return. Medical experts suggest that his age could enhance his prospects of regaining top form. The Mets organization remains cautiously optimistic, acknowledging that a clearer assessment of Allan’s future will emerge once he resumes regular pitching activities.
