After departing Boston as a free agent post-2021, Ottavino spent three seasons with the New York Mets, recording a career-best 12 saves in 2023. His familiarity with the Red Sox organization and previous success make him a promising candidate to contribute effectively in the upcoming season. Over his 14-year career, Ottavino has amassed a 41-43 record, a 3.49 ERA, and 46 saves in 721 relief appearances and three starts.
Ottavino’s return comes as the Red Sox prepare for their spring training schedule, which begins on February 21, 2025, against the Huskies. His experience and skill set are expected to provide valuable depth and leadership to a bullpen seeking improvement from previous seasons.
