Breaking news:Easily forgotten former NY Mets player joins the Braves on a minor league deal…….

Former New York Mets player Steve Ryan, a name that has largely faded from the memory of many baseball fans, has found a new opportunity in his career. The 32-year-old utility infielder has signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves, hoping to revive his professional journey after spending the past year playing in independent leagues. Once considered a promising prospect in the Mets’ farm system, Ryan never fully cemented himself at the major league level, leading to his quiet exit from MLB.

Ryan’s time with the Mets was brief and largely unremarkable, as he spent parts of two seasons shuttling between the majors and Triple-A. Known for his solid glove and versatility across the infield, he struggled offensively, batting just .215 in limited at-bats with New York. Injuries and inconsistency derailed his time with the organization, leading the Mets to part ways with him after the 2021 season. Since then, he has bounced around various leagues, trying to prove he still has what it takes to contribute at the highest level.

The Braves’ decision to sign Ryan to a minor league contract suggests they see potential value in his experience and defensive abilities. While he is unlikely to crack the team’s Opening Day roster, his presence provides depth within the organization, particularly in Triple-A Gwinnett. With injuries always a factor during the long MLB season, Ryan could find himself in line for a call-up if circumstances align in his favor.

For Ryan, this deal represents one last shot at returning to the big leagues. He has embraced the challenge, stating that he feels “stronger and more focused than ever” after spending the offseason training extensively. Whether he can translate that into on-field success remains to be seen, but for now, he is grateful for the opportunity. As the 2025 season approaches, Ryan will look to make the most of his fresh start with Atlanta.
