New York Mets reliever Jorge López has the opportunity to significantly increase his earnings through performance-based incentives in his one-year contract. While his base salary is $2 million, López can earn an additional $1.5 million by meeting specific performance milestones. These bonuses are structured around his number of relief appearances and innings pitched.
The incentive structure awards López $200,000 for reaching 35 relief appearances or 35 innings pitched, with additional $200,000 bonuses for every subsequent five appearances or innings up to 55. Beyond that, he can earn $250,000 each for reaching 60 and 65 relief appearances or innings. If López makes 65 appearances, he would earn $1.4 million in bonuses, bringing his total compensation to $3.4 million. While the contract doesn’t specify a bonus for 70 appearances, it’s possible that additional incentives could push his earnings higher.
López’s performance in the upcoming season will be crucial, not only for the Mets’ bullpen success but also for his personal financial gains. By achieving these performance targets, he can substantially boost his income, reflecting both his value to the team and the organization’s commitment to rewarding effective play.
