News now:Blue Jays make intriguing move on another free agent after Max Scherzer’s MLB free agency decision……. CHECK OUT EVERYTHING IN FULL

The Toronto Blue Jays have re-signed center fielder Kevin Kiermaier to a one-year, $10.5 million contract for the 2024 season. Kiermaier, who joined the Blue Jays in 2023 after a decade with the Tampa Bay Rays, had a strong inaugural season in Toronto, earning his fourth Gold Glove Award. He posted a .265 batting average with eight home runs and 14 stolen bases over 129 games.

This move comes after the Blue Jays’ pursuit of high-profile free agents, including Shohei Ohtani, who ultimately signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. By bringing back Kiermaier, the Blue Jays maintain a formidable defensive outfield trio alongside George Springer and Daulton Varsho. Kiermaier’s elite defense and left-handed bat provide balance to Toronto’s lineup, which has been predominantly right-handed.

Kiermaier’s return solidifies the Blue Jays’ outfield defense, a key component of their strategy. His exceptional fielding skills and veteran leadership are expected to continue benefiting the team’s pitching staff and overall run prevention efforts. With this signing, the Blue Jays aim to build upon their 2023 performance and advance further in the postseason.
