Breaking news;Mets Owner Sends Message to Pete Alonso After He ‘Certainly Won’ Negotiation……………

After protracted negotiations, the New York Mets have re-signed first baseman Pete Alonso to a two-year, $54 million contract, which includes an opt-out clause after the first year. This agreement came after Mets owner Steve Cohen arranged a meeting in Tampa with Alonso, Mets president David Stearns, and Alonso’s agents, Scott Boras and Mike Fiore. During this meeting, Cohen emphasized his personal desire to retain Alonso, leading to a breakthrough in the negotiations.

Prior to this meeting, Cohen had described the negotiations as “exhausting,” expressing dissatisfaction with the proposals from Alonso’s camp. He stated, “I don’t like the structures that are being presented back to us. I think it’s highly asymmetric against us.” Despite these challenges, the personal meeting helped both parties find common ground, culminating in the new contract.

Alonso’s decision to remain with the Mets reflects his appreciation for the team’s commitment and his affection for New York and his teammates. The contract structure allows Alonso the flexibility to opt out after one season, providing him the opportunity to reassess his options based on his performance and market conditions. This deal ensures that Alonso will continue to be a key contributor to the Mets’ lineup, at least for the upcoming season.
