Prior to Anthony Santander’s agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Kansas City Royals were reportedly interested in acquiring the slugging outfielder. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Royals made an offer to Santander during his free agency. However, after Santander chose to sign with the Blue Jays, Kansas City shifted their focus and pursued closer Carlos Estévez.

Santander ultimately agreed to a five-year, $92.5 million contract with the Blue Jays, which includes an opt-out clause and a team option for 2030 that could increase the deal’s value to $110 million over six years. This move bolsters Toronto’s lineup as they aim to improve upon their 74-88 record from the previous season.

In 2024, Santander had a career year with the Baltimore Orioles, hitting 44 home runs and recording 102 RBIs, earning his first American League All-Star selection. His power-hitting capabilities made him a highly sought-after free agent, attracting interest from multiple teams, including the Royals and Blue Jays.
