In a bold move to strengthen their roster, the Toronto Blue Jays’ management has announced their intent to pursue former Los Angeles Dodgers’ All-Star outfielder, Teoscar Hernández. Hernández, who previously played for the Blue Jays from 2017 to 2022, was traded to the Seattle Mariners before joining the Dodgers. During his tenure with the Dodgers, he delivered an impressive performance, hitting .272 with 33 home runs and 99 RBIs in the 2024 season. His return to Toronto is anticipated to bolster the team’s offensive lineup significantly.
The Blue Jays’ decision to target Hernández comes after their unsuccessful bid to sign two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who opted for a record-breaking $700 million contract with the Dodgers. This strategic pivot reflects the organization’s commitment to enhancing their offensive capabilities following a challenging 2024 season, where they finished last in the American League East with 74 wins. Reacquiring Hernández is seen as a move to rejuvenate the team’s batting strength and overall performance.
Financially, Hernández is reportedly seeking a three-year contract valued between $66 million and $72 million. Given the Blue Jays’ readiness to invest heavily in Ohtani, they appear well-positioned to meet Hernández’s contract expectations. His familiarity with the team and proven track record make him a valuable asset as the Blue Jays aim to reestablish themselves as strong contenders in the upcoming season.
