Recent reports have primarily focused on the Mets’ efforts to bolster their bullpen, including re-signing right-hander Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal. Stanek, who was a midseason acquisition, played a pivotal role in the Mets’ postseason run, delivering a 3.38 ERA over seven appearances.
In the free-agent market, former Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman has been a subject of interest. While rumors have linked Bregman to both the Red Sox and the Mets, no official agreements have been announced. The Mets are reportedly emerging as favorites to sign Bregman, aiming to strengthen their infield with his addition.
Regarding first base, the Red Sox appear committed to Triston Casas as their starter for the 2025 season. Despite a lack of right-handed power in their lineup, there is no indication that Boston is pursuing a first baseman from the Mets or the Astros. The Mets, on the other hand, are preparing for the potential departure of Pete Alonso in free agency and are considering internal options like Mark Vientos and Brett Baty to fill the position.
