Report: Mets, RHP Ryne Stanek agree to 1-year deal for $12,000,000……….

The New York Mets have reportedly reached an agreement with right-handed pitcher Ryne Stanek on a one-year contract worth $12 million. The deal strengthens the Mets’ bullpen with a veteran reliever who brings postseason experience and a strong track record. Stanek, known for his high-velocity fastball and effective splitter, will be a key late-inning option for manager Carlos Mendoza as the team looks to improve upon last season’s performance.

Stanek, 32, spent the last three seasons with the Houston Astros, where he played a crucial role in their bullpen, including during their 2022 World Series-winning campaign. In 2023, he posted a 4.09 ERA over 50 2/3 innings with 51 strikeouts, though his performance was slightly inconsistent compared to his dominant 2022 season when he recorded a 1.15 ERA. The Mets are banking on his ability to regain that elite form and provide much-needed stability to a bullpen that struggled at times last year.

For the Mets, adding Stanek is another step in their efforts to bolster their pitching depth following a disappointing 2024 season. While Edwin Díaz remains the primary closer, Stanek offers another experienced late-inning option alongside pitchers like Brooks Raley and Adam Ottavino. With this signing, the Mets continue their aggressive approach to reshaping the roster under president of baseball operations David Stearns, aiming to return to playoff contention in 2025.
