Breaking news:Mets agree to 2-year contract with ex-Cubs pitcher……. .

The New York Mets have signed former Chicago Cubs reliever Adbert Alzolay to a two-year minor league contract. Alzolay, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery in late August 2024 and is expected to miss most of the 2025 season as he recovers. The Mets are optimistic that he can bolster their bullpen upon his return in 2026.

In the 2023 season, Alzolay emerged as a reliable reliever for the Cubs, recording 22 saves and a 2.67 ERA. However, his performance declined in 2024, with his ERA rising to 4.67 before a forearm strain in mid-May sidelined him, eventually leading to surgery. Following these setbacks, the Cubs designated him for assignment.

This signing reflects the Mets’ strategy of investing in pitchers recovering from injuries, aiming for future contributions. Recently, they also signed left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to a two-year, $22 million contract as he recovers from hip surgery. These moves indicate the Mets’ commitment to strengthening their pitching staff for the long term.
