In 2023, Kevin Plawecki signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres but never made it onto the Texas Rangers’ roster during the season.
At 33 years old, Plawecki played for four teams throughout his career. He joined the Boston Red Sox in 2020 and was instrumental in popularizing Callum Scott’s remix of “Dancing On My Own” as the team’s celebratory anthem during their 2021 ALCS run.
However, the Red Sox released Plawecki late in the 2022 season, a move that stirred controversy among the team’s veterans. Pitcher Rich Hill described his departure as a “big hit” to the clubhouse, while Nathan Eovaldi expressed to WEEI’s Rob Bradford that he was both “shocked” and “disappointed” by the decision.
Over his 447 career games, Plawecki posted a .235 batting average, hitting 22 home runs and recording 137 RBIs.
