News now;Red Sox predicted to land $108 million ace in blockbuster offseason trade

The Boston Red Sox have been actively seeking to bolster their pitching rotation this offseason. Recent reports suggest that the team is targeting Seattle Mariners’ ace, Luis Castillo, who is under a five-year, $108 million contract. Castillo, a three-time All-Star, posted a 3.64 ERA over 175.1 innings in the 2024 season.

In a proposed trade scenario, the Red Sox would acquire Castillo in exchange for outfielder Wilyer Abreu, infielder Chase Meidroth, and outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia. Abreu, who recently won a Gold Glove and finished sixth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting, is considered a valuable asset. Meidroth and Garcia are also among Boston’s top 15 prospects.

This potential acquisition aligns with the Red Sox’s strategy to strengthen their starting rotation, especially after missing out on high-profile free agents like Juan Soto and Max Fried. By targeting Castillo, Boston aims to secure a durable and effective ace to lead their pitching staff in the upcoming season.
