The New York Yankees have been active this offseason, making key acquisitions such as Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and Devin Williams. While these moves are significant, none of them have been on the level of a player like Juan Soto.
However, the Yankees may have a shot at acquiring Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., should contract extension talks stall. If the two sides fail to reach an agreement, Guerrero would become a free agent next year. FanSided’s Jacob Mountz suggested a trade that could bring Guerrero to New York.
Losing players like Jones, Warren, and Pereira would be a significant sacrifice for the Yankees, but it might be necessary to land Guerrero within the American League East. The Yankees would also need to be confident in their ability to sign him long-term.
Jones, the Yankees’ No. 2 overall prospect and second-best outfield prospect, would be the centerpiece of the trade. With Jasson Domínguez poised for a larger role in the majors, the Yankees might be willing to move Jones.
While Jones’ raw power is seen as elite, his issue has been making consistent contact, which led to him breaking the Yankees’ minor league strikeout record last season.
On the positive side, his speed has allowed him to steal bases effectively and play center field well. If he can improve his contact skills, Jones has the potential for stardom.
