LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly’s Top Four Offseason Priorities, According to Tigers Reporter

NIL Efforts and Donor Support
LSU head coach Brian Kelly made significant moves this offseason to strengthen the Tigers’ football program. He converted part of his salary into NIL funds and spearheaded the “Million Dollar Match Challenge” to rally donor support for transfer portal investments. Despite these efforts, Wilson Alexander of The New Orleans Advocate highlights four key areas LSU still needs to address to complete its roster improvements.

Roster Overhaul in Progress
Much of LSU’s offseason work is already paying off, with the Tigers securing 14 transfers in the past three weeks to address critical needs. The additions include three edge rushers, three wide receivers, two offensive linemen, two cornerbacks, a tight end, a quarterback, a punter, and a defensive tackle. According to 247Sports, LSU currently boasts the No. 1 transfer class in the nation.

However, gaps remain. The Tigers still need safeties and are pursuing another offensive lineman. Depth at tight end may also be addressed, though standout performances, including those from Oklahoma transfer Bauer Sharp, have bolstered confidence in the position group.

Coaching Staff Adjustments
In addition to roster upgrades, Kelly must solidify his coaching staff. Tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Slade Nagle departed after one season to become the offensive coordinator at Houston, leaving a key position to fill.

Sustaining Success
Kelly’s efforts helped LSU avoid a potentially rocky offseason. He turned the Tigers into a transfer portal powerhouse and eased the pressure on their Texas Bowl matchup with Baylor. LSU dominated the game, earning a decisive 44-31 victory.

However, the Tigers’ leadership expects more. Another eight-win regular season won’t suffice, no matter how impressive the transfer cycle. Sustained success on the field will be essential to keeping LSU on its upward trajectory.
