LSU football will be missing two key wide receivers when they face Baylor in the Texas Bowl next week. CJ Daniels, who transferred to Miami, and Kyren Lacy, who opted out to prepare for the NFL Draft, will not play in the game.
Lacy was a standout for LSU in 2024, recording 58 receptions for 866 yards and leading the SEC with nine touchdowns. Daniels made a solid contribution during his lone season with the Tigers, catching 42 passes for 480 yards. Both players brought much-needed veteran experience to LSU’s wide receiver corps, as they were both in their fifth year of college football.
Along with the absence of Lacy and Daniels, LSU will also be without tight end Mason Taylor for the Texas Bowl, leaving the Tigers without three of their top four receiving targets. Additionally, depth has been impacted by the transfer portal departures of wide receiver Shelton Sampson and tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton.
Aaron Anderson and Chris Hilton are expected to take on most of the receiving responsibilities for LSU in the bowl game. Anderson, with 53 catches for 784 yards this season, is set to be the team’s top remaining receiver. Hilton, despite a difficult 2024 campaign, showed glimpses of his potential in LSU’s last game against Oklahoma, where he delivered his best performance of the season.
Zavion Thomas is expected to be the third option, with significant playing time likely. The depth chart after the top three remains uncertain, with Javen Nicholas, Jelani Watkins, and Kylan Billiot possibly stepping up to take on larger roles.
