Texas Longhorns junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond was seen in full pads, participating in drills Friday afternoon during a 15-minute media viewing window at Frank Denius Fields. The fifth-seeded Longhorns are set to face No. 4 seed Arizona State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day (Noon, ESPN).
Isaiah Bond’s official injury status remains unclear, with Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian not expected to address the media until Monday at Peach Bowl media day in Atlanta. Bond missed Texas’ 38-24 first-round win over Clemson due to a sprained ankle, which he aggravated in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia on December 7. This injury is believed to be a re-aggravation of a previous ankle sprain from October 19.
In addition to Bond, three other key players dealt with injuries following the Clemson win: right tackle Cam Williams, center Jake Majors, and running back Quintrevion Wisner. Williams and Majors were absent during the media viewing window, but this is not unusual for offensive linemen during early practice periods. Sarkisian later confirmed that Williams’ knee injury was “not as serious as we thought,” and the MRI conducted Sunday was a precaution. Wisner’s absence from the running backs group may have been maintenance-related rather than injury-related. Updates on these players are expected leading up to the Peach Bowl.
Late in the first half against Clemson, Williams and Wisner were injured after a blown-up screen pass. On the next play, Majors was hit by an illegal blindside block following a Quinn Ewers interception. All three players were ruled out for the night. Sarkisian stated Wisner and Majors were available to return, but caution prevailed.
