Realignment did little to faze out the top programs in college football, including the Texas Longhorns, formerly of the Big 12. This season, their first in the SEC, Texas posted an incredible 11-2 record, played in the SEC Championship game, and earned a second consecutive College Football Playoff berth. Leading the Longhorns is quarterback Quinn Ewers, a three-year starter and former five-star mega prospect. Although never a statistical standout, Ewers has led the now SEC power to back-to-back double-digit winning seasons. However, with Ewers still having eligibility, one media member believes the signal-caller should hit the transfer portal if he does not have a top-end draft grade.
Per ESPN, NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper, Texas football would be best suited in 2025 without the former Ohio State Buckeyes passer. Waiting in the wings behind Ewers is one of college football’s most highly recognizable names, Arch Manning, the nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning. Some college football fans believe Kiper’s words could have merit, flooding Twitter in response
According to Mel Kiper Jr. through On3:
Mel Kiper Jr. suggests Quinn Ewers should transfer if his draft grade remains the same:
“Arch Manning is going to be the quarterback at Texas next year. So, if you want to play college football, you probably have to move on somewhere.
…I would not come out unless I really played phenomenal football in these playoff games
If it was up to ESPN talking head Mel Kiper Jr., college football star and Texas Longhorns leader Quinn Ewers should transfer next season. Kiper believes Ewers would consider a return to the college ranks if he did not have a first-round draft grade, especially in the era of NIL and revenue sharing. Ewers has collected 2,665 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine picks this season. He has thrown for 62 touchdowns against 21 picks in his three years with Texas. He has also tallied seven rushing touchdowns during that span.
A longtime NFL Draft specialist, Kiper believes Texas will turn to fellow passer Arch Manning in 2025, regardless of Ewers’ status with the club. Manning has 13 touchdowns to two interceptions this season. Last offseason, Oklahoma let future Heisman Trophy Award finalist Dillon Gabriel walk while opting to start five-star signal-caller Jackson Arnold. With Texas likely to go down a familiar path, college football fans sided with Kiper’s take on the Texas Longhorns quarterback position.
