This stunning MV Agusta Superveloce 800, signed by the most successful grand prix racer of all-time Giacomo Agostini, will be auctioned off later this month by Iconicauctioneers at Silverstone. If you’re a fan of racing and MV Agusta, this is likely to trump anything else you could buy, especially since it’s never been ridden before, except for ‘push miles’.
#71 of only 311 ever made, this special Superveloce 800 bike has one previous owner and just four miles on the clock. Agostini ended his grand prix career as a 15-time world champion, therefore 15 of these limited edition Superveloce 800 ‘Ago’ bikes were reserved for the great man and his friends and family, with the other 296 made available for the public to purchase.
After the odd appearances on a Moto Morini bike in 1963 and 1964, Agostini became a full-time rider with MV Agusta, finishing second in his first three consecutive seasons on the world stage before winning the 500cc title in 1966. That began a streak of 12 straight championship wins from 1967 to 1973, including both the 350cc and 500cc titles in the same years from 1968 to 1972.
Following his hugely successful partnership with MV Agusta, Agostini switched to Yamaha where he collected his last two championship wins, one of which came in the 350cc class and the other in the 500cc category (1975) which was his final championship win.
With the stats about Agostini’s racing career rattled off, here’s what you need to know about this beast of a machine. The standard Superveloce 800 makes a whopping 145bhp and 65Ib ft of torque. However, this unique ‘Ago’ Superveloce bike has something a little bit tasty over the stock version which is a full shebang Ohlins suspension on the front and rear, as opposed to the, still very impressive, Marzocchi forks and a Sachs rear shock suspension package.
